Jackson Creek Kiwanis Trail
This 4-kilometre section of the Trans-Canada trail follows the course of Jackson Creek, from Jackson Park west to Ackison Road. Parking available at Jackson Park. Managed by Otonabee Region Conservation Authority. Information (705) 745-5791.

Mark S. Burnham Provincial Park
This double-looped 2.5 kilometre-long trail is mainly flat with one steep incline on the back loop. The trail passes through a mature forest featuring large trees, spring and summer wildflowers and numerous songbirds. Located on the north side of Highway 7, just west of Otonabee Concession 11. Rotary Greenway Trail
A 20 kilometre urban and rural trail, special project of the Peterborough Rotary Club. This trail is enhanced with benches, historic, environmental and ecological signage. There are numerous access points. The south entrance is on Ashburnham Drive, through the Ecology Park. It winds through the Beavermead camping area and along the north shore of Roger's Cove. This section of the Rotary Greenway trail is part of the Trans-Canada Trail. The trail continues north to Auburn Mills where it branches west across the Otonabee River. Further north the trail reaches Trent University. At the north edge of the campus it continues through Peterborough County along the Scenic River Road Section to the Lakefield Trail. Trent University Wildlife Sanctuary
This compact wildlife sanctuary managed by Trent University offers three looped trails. The Red Trail is mainly flat, measures 1.9 km and takes you through mainly forested areas. The Yellow Trail, which measures 2.4 km in length, and the Blue Trail, 2.9 km, pass through forested and grassland sections influenced by drumlin formations. On the east side of University Road, just south of Nassau Mills Road in Peterborough. Information: (705) 748-1643.

Trent University Promise Rock Nature Area
This 2.4 kilometre trail is mainly flat and passes through fields and tall pine trees between the Otonabee River and an abandoned railway. It was a Boy Scout camp at one time. Access is off River Road, from the parking lot north of the Environmental Sciences Building at Trent University. Managed by Trent University. Information: (705) 748-1643.

Lakefield Trail
This network of trails, constructed in year 2000, totals 5.5 kilometres and meanders through the Village of Lakefield. The trail mainly follows the shore of the Otonabee River and Lake Katchawanooka, with information kiosks/gazebos, benches, and historical and interpretive signage denoting many points of interest along the way. Warsaw Caves Conservation Area
Well-known for its limestone caves, this popular conservation area has a 13-kilometre trail system and family campground. A great bird-watching area. Located on the south side, of Caves Road, off County Road 4, just north of Warsaw. Managed by Otonabee Region Conservation Authority. Information: (705) 745-5791 or (705) 652-3161.

Petroglyphs Provincial Park
Petroglyphs Provincial Park, which is best known for its protection of the native rock carvings, also boasts four scenic hiking trails. Favourites include the 16-kilometre High Falls Trail and the 5.5-kilometre Nanabush Trail. The Nanabush Trail is a self-guided interpretive walk where hikers can learn about native stories and legends. Located 55 kilometres northeast of Peterborough off County Road 56 (Northey's Bay Road), 11 kilometres from Hwy 28. Managed by Ontario Parks. Trail specific maps available. Eels Creek Canoe Route

This 2-day canoe route follows Eels Creek from the Highway 28 bridge north of Woodview south to the bridge on Northey's Bay Road. There are five portages of varying difficulty on this mainly flatwater route. Highlights include High Falls and a trail from there to Petroglyphs Provincial Park.

Kawartha Nordic Ski Trails
This extensive system of cross-country ski trails measures 50 kilometres in length, and is free of charge to club members. Classic style skiing only is permitted on these wilderness trails. Managed by Kawartha Nordic Ski Club. Simmons parking lot is 40 kilometres north of Peterborough on Highway 28 just north of Haultain. Information: (705) 749-5605.

Long Lake Canoe Loop
This 2-3 day route includes a number of relatively small lakes on the west side of the Kawartha Highlands area. The circle route includes 9 portages and visits Long Lake, Loucks, Compass, Stoplog, turtle, Sherry, Triangle and Cox Lakes. Start at the end of Long Lake Road off Highway 28 north of Woodview.

Kawartha Highlands Canoe System
Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park contains a large number of lakes suitable for canoe tripping. There are numerous routes to choose from, including short day trips. One of the shorter trips starts at the Beaver Lake Road bridge on Catchacoma Lake and goes to Bottle Creek, Bottle Lake, Sucker Lake and back. Allow 4-5 hours.

Serpentine Lake Canoe Route
This Kawartha Highlands route requires 2-3 days and 7 portages. It starts near the east end of Anstruther Lake and heads north into Rathburn, North Rathburn, Serpentine and Copper Lakes. Access is via the public landing towards the east end of Anstruther Lake Road off Highway 28 just south of Apsley.

Silent Lake Provincial Park
This popular provincial park has a variety of trails including: Bonnie's Pond Trail, which measures 3 kilometres through undulating Beech and Hemlock forests. Accessible from Princer Bay parking lot. The Lakehead Loop Trail is 1.5 kilometres long leading through forests of Hemlock, Sugar Maple and Red Oak. Accessible from the day-use area of Granite Ridge Campground. The 15 kilometre Lakeshore Trail provides a rugged hike to beautiful lookouts and colourful rock cuts as it skirts the shores of Silent and Quiet Lakes. The park also has an excellent Mountian Bike Trail measuring 6, 12 or 19 kilometres. It travels through moderately to very challenging rugged terrain on its way around Silent Lake. Accessible from day-use area or Bonnie's Pond parking area. Cross-country skiing is available on several trails increasing in length and difficulty from Green (2.5 km), to Red (6 km) to Yellow (13 km) to Blue (19 km). There is also an 8 kilometre ski-skating loop. The park is located on the south side of Highway 28, just 24 kilometres south of Bancroft. Managed by Ontario Parks. Trail maps available. Ganaraska Trail
One of Ontario's major long-distance trails, the 450 kilometre route starts in Port Hope and joins with the Bruce Trail near Glen Huron. Expect to encounter a variety of terrain including rolling, rocky sections. Accessible at several locations in the Peterborough County region. Managed by the Ganaraska Trail Association. Selwyn Conservation Area
This 3.5 kilometre-long trail travels a variety of woodland, open fields and wetlands on the east shore of Chemong Lake located off 12th line of Smith-Ennismore northwest of the town of Lakefield. Managed by Otonabee Region Conservation Authority. Information: (705) 745-5791.

Miller Creek Wildlife Area
A series of short trails measuring 1 kilometre in total length meander through open meadows and woodland along the edge of a wetland area. Located on the 7th Line of Smith , just east of Bridgenorth. Managed by Otonabee Region Conservation Authority. Information: (705) 745-5791.

Emily Provincial Park
This 1 kilometre boardwalk leads you through a marsh to a viewing platform on a small island. During spring and summer Osprey can be seen on nearby nests. Located on County Road 10. Managed by Ontario Parks. Information: (705) 799-5170.

Ganaraska Forest
This large, mostly reforested area offers over 100 kilometres of trails passing through sandy, rolling terrain typical of the Oak Ridges moraine. There are several access points but most facilities are at the Ganaraska Forest Centre on Cold Springs Road north of Regional Road 9 (also known as Ganaraska Road) near Kendal. Millbrook Valley Trail
Located behind the arena in the charming village of Millbrook, this 1.5 kilometre loop passes through mainly flat terrain next to Needler's Mill Pond. It is currently being extended to join other local trails. Managed by Cavan Millbrook North Monaghan Township. Information: (705) 932-2929.
