New Causeway Child Care Centre

Linwood Home Plan Book

Joanne and Wayne Porter own and operate the Causeway Child Care Centre out in Bridgenorth. This spring they purchased the old Chemong Jr. Public School at 1027 Wilcox Street, behind the firehall in Ennismore, and they’ve been renovating all summer. The new Centre will have all of the up to date amenities and a lot more room. Their capacity rises from 21 kids to 64, they can now take kids from 14 months to 12 years, and they’ll eventually employ 8 staff. The big move from old location to new takes place this week. Coffee Shop Opens Additional Franchise in Peterborough

There’s a new Starbucks opening in town at the corner of Lansdowne and Webber. The new location features Starbucks first stand-alone drive-thru. This Wednesday they’ll be celebrating with a "Friends and Family" event from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. You can enjoy a complimentary beverage, sample some products and all voluntary donations will be given to the YWCA.

Mapleridge Senior Recreation Centre at New Location

The Mapleridge Senior Recreation Centre has been operating in the City for 47 years. They recently took over 5000 square feet in the former Kesco Building at 770 Erskine Avenue. The seniors themselves have done many of the renovations, with help from local companies, and they now have a great new home for their many programs, including home-cooked meals, cards, music, dancing and crafts. Kesco Electric Bought by Rexel Canada

You may have noticed I said the "former" Kesco building... Kesco Electric Supply was recently sold to Rexel Canada Electrical Inc. All four Kesco locations, in Oshawa, Lindsay, Cobourg and Peterborough will operate under the Nedco banner, joining 38 other Nedco branches in Ontario. Kesco was in it’s 74th year in Peterborough starting out on Hunter street in what is now the Gordon Best Theatre, then moving to George Street where Carl Oake’s Century 21 United is now located, before building on Erskine Avenue. I’m told that Kesco partners Bob Holland, Bill Black and Vince Gatt will be "put out to pasture" at the end of October!

Renovations at The Original Greek

George and Anna Anagnostou have just completed renovations at The Original Greek Restaurant at the corner of Parkhill and Water streets in Peterborough. Celebrating 30 years in business they’ve done a nice facelift inside, and honoured their parents, the original Greeks -Paul and Anna Anagnostou, last Thursday with a ribbon cutting and prices from 30 years ago.
