Welcome to The Business Beat.

Pensieri Shoes is finished renovating

If you haven’t been in to the new Pensieri Shoes in downtown Peterborough, be sure to stop in. Joseph and Silvia Ferreri have done an outstanding job of taking over the former Plum Loco location and renovating it, using local contractors for the work. The new store gives them more space and an expanded selection of hosiery, socks, and accessories such as bags, purses, hats and PJ’s. Pensieri carries shoes for men and women, with numerous lines,, including Franco Sarto, Ecco, Geox, Privo, Indigo, Birkenstock, hush puppies, Bostonian, Sperry and sketchers. The new store is located at 373 George Street, call (705) 876-9668 for more information.

Lakefield Animal Shelter “Raise the Woof” capital campaign

A number of businesses are getting together on Sunday November 4th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Best Western Otonabee Inn. Called Holiday By Design, companies include Lakeshore Designs, Shari Darling The Sophisticated Wino, Chef Brian Henry, East City Flower Shop, Griffins Greenhouses, The Magic Rolling Pin, RARE Grill House, Sol Food, Fandango Salon, A Moveable Feast, and many more. You can enjoy food and wine tasting, decorating tips, flower demonstrations, and get advice from all the experts. Ada Lee will be there on piano, and all the proceeds go to the Lakefield Animal Shelter “Raise the Woof” capital campaign. Tickets available for $50 at Lakeshore Designs, 427 George Street North, Peterborough, or by calling (705) 748-3875.

Bed and Breakfast option one

And we have two new and very cool Bed and Breakfast options for you… The first one is called 1345 B & B. Hosts Nancy and Wally Scheurer are located at 1345 Hilliard Street. It’s a very unique setup actually housed in a loft bedroom guest cabin. The farm dates from the 1840’s, and the cabin has been completely renovated to include a self-contained kitchen and bathroom. It’s a very private one acre setting, it includes a continental breakfast and they will accept families if you have someone coming in to town for an event or hockey tournament. Call (705) 745-4574.

Bed and Breakfast option two

Meanwhile up in Lakefield, Sadie Baillie and Jim Smith recently opened The Wee Butt ‘n’ Ben at 58 Bridge St., Lakefield, at the corner of Clementi St. and Bridge St. in Lakefield. Sadie is from Scotland and she remembered a Scottish cartoon strip, featuring a cottage called the Wee Butt ‘n’ Ben. Guests will enjoy a choice of three bedrooms, a delicious breakfast, and Sadie’s Scottish wit. The Lakefield home was built in 1886 and has been previously owned by two dentists and one doctor. Call (705) 652-7601 for more information.
