Welcome to The Business Beat.
Eco-friendly gift shop comes to Peterborough
Buttercup & Co. is an eco-friendly gift shop located at 381 Queen St. in downtown Peterborough, behind Scotiabank across from Fontaines. Owner Caren Adams just opened her doors last Wednesday selling handmade organic, recycled, and Fair Trade products. She has an amazing collection of products, such as re-created t-shirts, organic tea, fair trade recycled
purses and bags made from materials like candy-wrapper, bar codes, coca cola packaging, and old billboard signs. You’ll find evirosax tote bags, organic puppy & baby toys, Canadian handmade jewellery made from scrap pieces of exotic wood , recycled paper goods such as journals, dehydrated elephant poopoo paper, memo pads made out of vintage wallpaper,
greeting cards from sustainable wood, and Caren’s own line of aprons made from vintage pillow cases. Phone Buttercup & Co. the eco-chic boutique at (705) 775-1972. www.buttercupandcompany.ca.
Ethanol fireplaces available at The Original Flame
Michele Kadwell-Chalmers of The Original Flame has just introduced a fascinating line of ethanol fireplaces to her store. They can be installed almost anywhere, require no venting and no connection to a utility, which makes them an attractive choice for condominium, apartment, office and restaurant owners. Installation can be as simply as hanging them on the wall. When ethanol is burned its emissions are roughly similar to human breath – small amounts of water vapour and carbon dioxide. You can buy the ethanol fuel in four litre jugs. Michele has two lines, the German Blomus and the Australian Ecosmart. The Original Flame is located on Highway 7, East of Peterborough across from Heritage Furniture. Call (705) 742-9452.
Expansion completed for The Country Corner
The Country Corner, on the Lakefield Highway just past Giant Tiger, recently expanded, doubling the store size to accommodate a new line of Mennonite furniture. The unique store, owned by Jillian Demille and Bryce Wallace, supports up to twenty local farmers, some of them in season, but right now you’ll find chicken, eggs, beef, lamb, elk, cider, cheese, maple syrup, honey, jams, jellies, and the best part - every Saturday is sample Saturday! They also carry products from local artisans, cabinet-makers, and crafters. The Country Corner is open every day until Christmas. For more information call (705) 755-0774.
Birthday ParTee or event mini putt adventure facility
Putt ‘n’ ParTee is a glow in the dark mini putt adventure facility, recently opened at 1550 Lansdowne Street in the former White Rose building. Putt ‘n’ ParTee puts a unique spin on birthday parties, fundraisers, group events, staff meetings, team building, and social outings. Owner Erin Bailey, says there are also interactive arcade games, and two party rooms. The custom designed mini putt course features glow in the dark props on the golf course and glow in the dark putters, balls, and holes. Call (705) 750-GLOW for current hours of operation or to book your Birthday ParTee or event. Or visit our website at www.puttnpartee.com.
