Art Book: The Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust (ORMLT) is looking to create an art book which will showcase paintings of the moraine by community artists. The book will be made available at art exhibitions, environmental events. Preference will be given to artwork representing designated ORMLT properties. There is a registration fee of $30 for the opportunity to have work published in the book. Deadline for registration is Monday, June 30. Deadline for submissions is August 25. Workshop: The Ecology Park hosts a workshop on Backyard Composting from 7 – 8 p.m. at the Ecology Park (Ashburnham Dr. south of Lansdowne, Peterborough). Participants are invited to start the season on the right foot with this refresher for experienced composters or how-to for the novice. Information Session: Environment Haliburton presents Uranium: Impact on Haliburton County from noon - 4 p.m. at Sir Sandford Fleming College, Haliburton Campus. Speakers will include: John Kittle - Overview of uranium issues and opposition in eastern Ontario, Linda Harvey (retired MD) on health issues, John Hudson on effects on First Nations, Dave Burton with an analysis from the perspective of local government, Valerie Hunnius on the Paudash Lake experience, environmental impacts and clean up, and lawyer Michael Swinwood on a possible class-action lawsuit. Wildflower Walk: The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority hosts its annual Mother’s Day Wildflower Walk from 2 - 3:30 p.m. at the Ganaraska Forest Centre (Cold Springs Camp Rd., just west of Elizabethville). Visitors can enjoy a guided and informative walk through the forest while identifying spring flowers such as trillium, trout lily, wild ginger and marsh marigold. Everyone is welcome. The walk will be held rain or shine and tea will be served afterwards. The cost for this event is $10 per family, $5 per adult or $3 per child, student or senior. Plant Sale: The Lakefield and District Horticultural Society hosts its Annual Plant Sale from 9 a.m. – noon. This plant sale is growing every year with more plant donations, more volunteers sharing tips with customers and good 'ol camaraderie! This year promises to be bigger and better yet with a terrific selection of annuals, perennials, vegetables, and maybe even some trees and shrubs. Come to the Lakefield Cenotaph early for the best selection. Just over the bridge in Lakefield. Funds raised help the Society to beautify the Village.

Plant Sale: Wayside Academy hosts a Spring Plant Sale from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the school (575 Centre line at Woodland, Peterborough ). This is the Academy’s 2nd annual plant sale, and is expected to include a wide variety of plants, shrubs, herbs, soil and manure as well as BBQ and other food. Fundraiser: Camp Kawartha hosts a Green in Motion Fundraiser with registration at 9:30 a.m. and a start time of 10:30 a.m. beginning at the pavilion atop Nichols’ Oval in Peterborough. Participants of all ages are invited to use any form of human-powered transportation (bike, rollerblade, walk or run) to raise money to send a child to camp. The event offers a Half Marathon (30km), Heart-in-Action (10km), Muscles-in-Action (5km), or “I can do it” (1km) route along the Rotary trail. The event runs rain or shine. Refreshments and prizes will be awarded. Camp Kawartha is charitable organization offering environmental education, and outdoor camping experiences for children and youth. Workshop & Presentation: The Gaia Centre for Eco-Spirituality and Sustainable Work presents “Heal with the Earth,” beginning Friday at 7 p.m. at the Centre (1032 Cameron Lane, Haliburton). Facilitator Rebekah Hart, a graduate of the McGill School of Environment and a Canadian intern of Johanna Macy will lead participants in an exploration of concepts from Deep Ecology and Systems Theory. This workshop is especially for those looking to “carve a pathway through the pain, disillusionment, anger or sorrow of ecological destruction, and finding there-in a key to our power.” The workshop fee is $139. Festival: The GAMIING Centre for Sustainable Lakeshore Living presents a Summer Lakeshore Festival at the Centre (1884 Pigeon Lake Rd., between Lindsay and Bobcaygeon). Celebrate the natural environment and learn about what each person can do to reduce their footprint. The event will include displays, a native plant nursery (orders accepted), info on lakeshore habitat management, a lead exchange program for fishing and hunting, and much more. An organic food court will include fresh wild edible finger food, locally brewed beer and wine, and home-made lemonade.
