Heartstrings:
A Concert to Support Willie P. Bennett
Sponsored by quidnovis.com
Willie P. Bennett
Friends and musical colleagues of Willie P. Bennett will gather at the
Market Hall on July 27 for a concert in support of the popular singer
songwriter and Peterborough resident. Bennett suffered a mild heart attack
while playing with the Fred Eaglesmith band in Midland Ontario on the
Victoria Day weekend and is under doctorıs orders to take some time
off-tour. He is expected to make a full and speedy recovery, but will be
unable to ply his trade for a few months. Like most musicians, Bennett is
self-employed and does not have extended health coverage. Thatıs why his
musical colleagues have stepped forward to lend him a hand, just as he would
do for any of them.
The Heartstrings concert, presented in cooperation with the Market Hall,
will take place at 8 pm on Friday, July 27. Tickets, priced at $55.00 will
be available starting Friday, June 29, from the www.fredeaglesmith.com
online store, and also at Titles Bookstore, and Moondance in downtown
Peterborough.
Willie P. Bennett has performed at every major folk festival in Canada and
shared concert billings with such luminaries as JJ Cale , Jesse Winchester,
Guy Clark, Garnet Rogers, and Eric Anderson. Since 1995 his main gig has
been as mandolin and harmonica player for Fred Eaglesmith. In 1999, Bennett
received a well-deserved JUNO award for Best Roots & Traditional Album -
Solo for the album Heartstrings.
Alt-country hero Fred Eaglesmith, who packed the Market Hall in April, will
headline the Heartstrings show along with Blackie and the Rodeo Kings
(Stephen Fearing, Colin Linden and Tom Wilson), a band originally formed to
record a tribute album of Willie P. Bennett songs. Other performers will be
added to the bill as their schedules permit.
